Best Black Coffee

Do you aspire to drink black coffee without sugar, but can't get over the bitterness? We have a trick to make smooth, less bitter black coffee - add a few roasted cacao beans when grinding coffee in your grinder!

Tasting Notes: The all-natural cacao butter in cacao beans works like [vegan] cream to create a less bitter, mildly chocolatey, decadent and smooth cup of coffee you'll look forward to waking up for.

Of course, you could also "bulletproof" your coffee by adding straight cacao butter. But, that involves more fat and calories.

Food for Thought: One final tip for less bitter black coffee - buy great coffee that is 100% fair and direct trade. If you prefer your coffee freshly roasted, opt for a roaster in your neighborhood to support local. Located less than one mile away, we love our direct trade neighbor, Kuma Coffee's Classic Blend

Directions:

  • Easiest: If you have a coffee grinder, grind your coffee and cacao together with a ratio of no more than 1 part cocoa beans for 3 parts coffee beans. If you use a higher ratio of cocoa beans, they're likely to make a cocoa paste in your grinder.
  • Easy: If you don't have a coffee grinder or prefer not to grind coffee and cocoa together, you can grind cacao beans using a spice grinder or food processor. After grinding, store in an airtight container at room temperature.
